Trivia

  • On November 18, 2007 in the game of the Cleveland Browns against the Baltimore Ravens , he tried to achieve a 51-yard field goal at 33:30 for the Ravens. After his shot, the ball slammed onto the left goal post and from there onto the inner curved rod that "holds up" the goal. From there the ball jumped back into the field. At first the field goal was not given. 33:30 would have been the final score. Since at the time in the NFL a field goal could not be examined by means of video evidence, the referees discussed among themselves whether the field goal counted or not. Finally it was decided to give the field goal and it went into overtime with a score of 33:33 . Here the Cleveland Browns finally won with 36:33. Since the 2008 season , video evidence has been allowed at field goals. This rule is also known as the "Phil Dawson Rule".
  • Dawson shoots with his right foot but throws with his left hand.
