Raymond Fellows

Raymond Fellows (born October 17, 1885 in Bucksport , Maine , † September 3, 1957 in Bangor , Maine) was an American judge and politician who was Maine Attorney General from 1925 to 1928 .

Life

Raymond Fellows was born in Bucksport to Oscar Fowler Fellows and Eva Maria Fling. He attended the Eastern Maine Conference Seminary in Bucksport, later the University of Maine , where he graduated in 1908. He then attended the University of Maine College of Law at Bangor, where he earned a law degree in 1909. In 1926 he earned a Master of Arts degree from the University of Maine . After completing his law studies, he first worked in his father's law firm in Bangor. He was admitted to the bar in 1909. He became his father's partner and that partnership lasted until his father's death in 1921. He then formed a partnership with his brother Frank Fellows , who later became a member of the US House of Representatives .

As a member of the Republican Party , Fellows was Maine Attorney General from 1925 to 1929. Fellows was appointed to the Superior Court of Maine on December 29, 1939 by Governor Percival Proctor Baxter . On May 1, 1946, he was appointed associate judge by Governor Horace A. Hildreth , and Burton M. Cross appointed him presiding judge on April 7, 1954. He held this office until his retirement on September 15, 1956.

From 1933 to 1957, Fellows was President of the Bangor Historical Society. He also served as Chairman of the Maine Citizen's Committee at the federal government level. He belonged to Unitarianism .

Raymond Fellows was married to Madge Gilmore. There were three children from this marriage. He died in Bangor on September 3, 1957. His grave is in Silver Lake Cemetery in Bucksport, Maine.
