Clement F. Robinson

Clement F. Robinson (born March 27, 1882 in Brunswick , Maine , † December 13, 1964 ) was an American lawyer and politician who was Maine Attorney General from 1929 to 1932 .

Life

Clement Franklin Robinson was born in Brunswick to Franklin Clement Robinson and Ella Maria Tucker. His father was a professor at Bowdoin College from 1874 until his death in 1910 . He attended local schools and studied at Bowdoin College, which he graduated in 1903 with a grade summa cum laude . He then studied at Harvard Law School . There he earned a Bachelor of Laws in 1906 . He was admitted to the bar in 1905 and worked for Tyler & Young in Boston for a year.

He then worked as a clerk for the Maine Tax Commission. In 1909 he and his brother Arthur Robinson opened a law firm in Portland , Maine. Robinson was a member of the Republican Party . He was Assistant County Attorney for Cumberland County from 1918 to 1924, and later a County Attorney. In 1924 he was appointed Deputy Attorney General of Maine. He carried out this activity for seven months. He was elected Maine Attorney General in 1928, and served from 1929 to 1932. In addition, he was President of the National Association of Attorneys Generals from 1931 to 1932. He was a member of the American Bar Association, where he served on the Board of Governors , and the Maine State Bar Association.

Robinson was a member of various committees and associations. He was a partner in the law firms of Robinson and Richardson, director of First Pobawacortland National Bank and the Brunswick Savings and Loan Association, and JE Goodall & Co. From 1926 to 1932 he was chairman of the Republican Committee for Cumberland County. He was a member of the Board of Overseers of Bowdoin College since 1926, was vice-chairman of that body from 1934 to 1943 and then president of the board. He was a trustee of the Maine Home for Boys, the New England Conservatory of Music, and the Maine Historical Society. Robinson was vice president of the Pejepscot Historical Society and a deacon of the First Parish Church in Brunswick and for several years moderated the congregation's meetings. He was a trustee of the Universalist Church of Maine from 1946 to 1949 and was a member of the National Amateur Press Association, the Rotary Club of Brunswick, the Harvard Club in Boston and Maine, the Cumberland Club, and the Town and College Club in Brunswick.

Clement F. Robinson published historical articles and stories in newspapers, and he also published on legal issues. He was president of The Fossils group , an association of amateur writers. His publications include: The Professor , 1941; Second Mowing , 1943; Another Mowing , 1944.

Clement F. Robinson was married to Myrta Booker since 1908. A daughter comes from this marriage. He died in Brunswick on December 13, 1964. His grave is in Pine Grove Cemetery in Brunswick, Maine.
