Lucilius A. Emery

Lucilius Alonzo Emery (born July 27, 1840 in Carmel , Maine , † August 26, 1920 in Hancock Point , Maine) was an American judge and politician who was Maine Attorney General from 1876 to 1878 .

Life

Lucilius Alonzo Emery was born in Carmel, Maine in 1840 to James S. Emery and Eliza Wing. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1861, studied law, and settled in Ellsworth . There he had a joint law firm with Eugene Hale .

He was for Hancock County from 1874 to 1875 and 1881 to 1882 a member of the Senate of Maine and from 1876 to 1879 Attorney General of Maine. In 1883 he was appointed judge of the Supreme Judicial Court of Maine and served there until 1906. From 1906 to 1911 he was Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court of Maine.

Emery married Anne S. Crosby in 1864. The couple had a daughter and a son. He died on August 26, 1920 at Hancock Point. His grave is in Woodbine Cemetery in Ellsworth, Maine.
