Nathan D. Appleton

Nathan D. Appleton (born May 20, 1794 in Ipswich , Massachusetts , † August 25, 1862 in Alfred , Maine ) was an American lawyer and politician who was Maine Attorney General from 1857 to 1859 .

Life

Nathan Dane Appleton was the son of Samuel Appleton and Mary White. His brother was James Appleton , who ran unsuccessfully for governor of Maine in 1842. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1813 and was admitted to the bar in 1816.

Appleton moved to Alfred, Maine, in 1823, where he worked as a lawyer and was a justice of the peace. He served in the Maine House of Representatives from 1829 and 1847-1848, and moved to the Maine Senate in 1830 . From 1857 to 1859 he was Maine Attorney General. Appleton was a member of the Whig Party .

Nathan D. Appleton was married to Julia Hall (1804-1880). He died on August 25, 1862, his grave is in the Parish Congreational Church Cemetery in Alfred.
