Henry Tallman

Henry Tallman (born August 2, 1806 in Bath , Maine , † May 4, 1885 ibid) was an American lawyer and politician who was Maine Attorney General from 1849 to 1852 .

Life

Henry Tallman was born in Bath, Maine in 1806 as one of 10 children of Captain Peleg Tallman (1764–1841) and Eleanor Clarke (1774–1857). He graduated from Harvard Law School .

He then worked successfully as a lawyer in Bath. Tallman was a member of the Democratic Party , served in the Maine Senate from 1844 to 1845 and was Maine Attorney General from 1849 to 1852.

Due to the extraordinary wealth of his father, Tallman was considered a very good match in Maine and finally his father advised him to marry Sarah Fitts (1806-1856). He promised Tallman half a million dollars if he married her, which Henry Tallman did in 1833. From this marriage he had three children. After the death of Sarah Tallman, he married Elizabeth Clementine Brown (1824-1918) for the second time. There were two children from this marriage.

The family home is listed on the Historic American Buildings Survey. It is located on 982 High Street in Bath's historic district.
