Jon A. Lund

Jon Arnold Lund (born November 6, 1928 in Plattsburgh , New York ) is an American lawyer and politician who was Maine Attorney General from 1972 to 1974 .

Life

Jon A. Lund was born as the second son of the Norwegian immigrants Anton Marius Lund (1892-1967) and Helga Jacobine Carola Rørholt (1895-1975) in Plattsburgh (New York). He first studied at Bowdoin College and graduated in 1951 with a bachelor's degree . He then studied at Harvard University Law School, where he graduated in 1954. After his admission to the bar in 1954, he opened a law firm in Augusta that same year .

John A. Lund served two years in the US Army; then he was a member of the Augusta City Council , the city council of Augusta. He was elected County Attorney for Kennebec County . As a member of the Republican Party , he was a member of the Maine Senate from 1965 to 1966 and 1969 to 1972 and Maine Attorney General from 1972 to 1974. He was the first Attorney General to perform this role on a full-time basis. In 1974, Lund was admitted to the US Supreme Court .

He was President of the Natural Resources Council of Maine and the Maine Civil Liberties Union , and also chaired the Board of Trustees for the Maine State Retirement System . He is a member of the Maine Board of the Conservation Law Foundation . He gave up his law firm in 1985. Jon A. Lund is the publisher and owner of sports magazine The Maine Sportsman .

Jon A. Lund married Sylvia Viles (1932-2007) on June 28, 1952; they had six children. Sylvia Viles Lund was also a member of the Republican Party and a member of the Maine House of Representatives .
