G. Steven Rowe

G. Steven Rowe (born April 23, 1953 in Gore , Oklahoma ) is an American attorney and politician who was Maine Attorney General from 2001 to 2008 .

Life

G. Steven Rowe grew up as the son of a farmer in Gore, Oklahoma. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point , where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1975, his Master of Business Administration in 1978 from the University of Utah and in 1987 he graduated from the University of Maine School of Law .

Rowe was stationed at Army Airfield in Wiesbaden in the late 1970s , where he was platoon leader of the infantry. His first wife left him when he went back to the United States. Three young children grew up with him afterwards.

As a member of the Democratic Party , he was a member of the Maine House of Representatives from 1992 to 2000 , speaker of the House of Representatives from 1998 to 2000, and Maine Attorney General from 2001 to 2008. In 2010 he ran unsuccessfully for the candidacy of Democrat for governor of Maine. The candidate was Libby Mitchell , who later defeated the Republican candidate, Paul LePage .

Rowe worked as a consultant for Verrill Dana law firm in Portland. From 2011 to 2012 he was an advisor to the Maine Early Learning Investment Group and since 2012 President of Endowment For Health in New Hampshire. In 2015, Rowe became President of the Maine Community Foundation.

Rowe was married to Amanda Rowe. She died of breast cancer in 2013 at the age of 58. The couple met when she was nursing their three children in the Army infirmary at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. They had another daughter together.
