William Joseph Schneider called Bill Schneider (born April 25, 1959 in Syracuse , New York ) is an American lawyer and politician who was Maine Attorney General from 2011 to 2012 .

Life

Bill Schneider attended the United States Military Academy at West Point , graduating in 1981. He then served in the US Army on the border with North Korea , was captain of the Green Berets and acquired the Special Forces Tab , Ranger Tab and the Senior Airborne Wings . He has been in a wheelchair and has been retired since an injury while on duty when his vehicle overturned during a hurricane and he suffered a fractured vertebra. After working as a project manager for an engineering firm, he studied at the University of Maine Law School and graduated in 1993. He was then Deputy Maine Attorney General .

Following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks , he was employed as the federal counterterrorism coordinator in the United States Attorneys Office for Maine. He then worked as an Assistant United States Attorney . He was also used in the Guantanamo Review Task Force . His other roles included serving on the Maine Board of Bar Overseers , teaching at Harvard Law School, and the Trial Advocacy Workshop .

A member of the Republican Party , Schneider was a member of the Maine House of Representatives from 1999 to 2001 and Attorney General of Maine from 2011 to 2012 .

After retiring as Attorney General, Governor Paul LePage appointed Schneider Deputy Director of the Office of Politics and Management . In 2012, Schneider ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the United States Senate .

In 2014, Schneider was sworn in as a judge on the United States District Court .

Bill Schneider is married to Barbara T. Schneider, the couple has adopted a child.
