The UEC Road European Championships 2016 ( 2016 UEC Road European Championships ) took place from September 14th to 18th, 2016 in Plumelec, France, and in the Morbihan department in Brittany .

Initially, it was planned to take place in Nice and Monaco . However, on August 5, 2016, the championships were canceled against the backdrop of the July 14, 2016 attack that killed 85 people.

At first it was feared that the European Championships would be canceled due to the short-term cancellation, but then, in addition to Morbihan, the British Yorkshire and the Italian cities Trentino and Marche applied . The award to Plumelec was made because of the selective route, which includes the 7.8 percent steep climb Côte de Cadoudal .

At these European Road Championships, titles in the elite classes of men and women were awarded for the first time. Until now, the European Championship races were reserved for the junior classes U19 and U23.
