Karl Ludwig von Gayette

Karl Ludwig von Gayette (born September 9, 1773 in Bernau , † January 20, 1856 in Hirschberg (Silesia) ) was a Prussian major general and inspector of the Silesian fortresses.

Life

His parents were the first lieutenant Siegmund Wilhelm Friedrich von Gayette (* 1733) and his wife Eleonore Dorothea, née Gerwich (1744-1797). His grandfather was the architect Pierre de Gayette .

Military career

Gayette came to the Great Military Orphanage in Potsdam in 1780 and from there to the Cadet House in Berlin on July 5, 1786 . As a trainee he was from April 5, 1790 at the engineering academy in Potsdam. On March 31, 1794, Gayette was transferred to the engineering corps of the Prussian Army as a second lieutenant and on February 23, 1800, transferred to Graudenz . In the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Auerstedt . After the lost war, Gayette was not dismissed, but rose on February 28, 1812 to prime lieutenant in the engineering corps. By December 29, 1813 he was promoted to captain and proved himself during the wars of liberation at the siege of Thorn . For this, Gayette received the Iron Cross II. Class and the Order of St. Vladimir IV. Class. He also fought in the siege of Danzig . In 1815 he was transferred from Platz to Kolberg as an engineer officer.

After the war, on April 20, 1816, Gayette became major in the 1st Engineer Brigade. For his services at the siege of Danzig he received the Iron Cross 1st Class on October 23, 1816. On November 14, 1817, he was made a regular staff officer and on March 30, 1818, he was transferred as an engineer officer to the 3rd Engineer Brigade in Münster . On April 7, 1822 he came to the 1st Rhenish Fortress Inspection as an inspector. On May 18, 1825 he received the service cross . On June 16, 1826, he was transferred to the 2nd Engineer Brigade and appointed inspector of the Silesian fortresses. For his services he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III on January 18, 1831 . Class. The following year, Gayette was posted on March 30, 1832 to lieutenant colonel , and on March 30, 1834 to Colonel promoted. In addition, on January 18, 1836, he was awarded the Red Eagle Order III. Class. Under awarding of the character as a major general Gayette received on 4 March 1837 the statutory pension his farewell . On August 3, 1841, he became senior of the Iron Cross, 2nd class. He died on January 20, 1856 in Hirschberg in Silesia and was buried on January 23, 1856.

family

Gayette married on July 21, 1803 in Graudenz Wilhelmine Auguste Henriette von Kotzau (1774-1805), widowed Baroness von Vernezobre. The daughter Ulrike Luise Auguste Wilhelmine (* 1805) emerged from the marriage.

After the death of his first wife, he married on October 21, 1814 in Pillau Aurora Dorothea Antoinette Ernstine Lorenz (1797-1857), a daughter of the freight forwarder Lorenz from Pillau. The couple had several children:
