Philip Christian Ribbentrop , also Philipp Christian Ribbentrop , (born March 25, 1737 in Detmold , † March 26, 1797 in Braunschweig ), was a German lawyer , writer and chronicler .

life and work

Coming from the old Ribbentrop family in Lippe , he studied law at the University of Göttingen from 1755 and in Helmstedt from 1757 . After completing his studies, he joined the Brunswick civil service as legal advisor for the Allersheim office and the Bevern court . In 1766 he moved to the Mariental Monastery Court in Lappwald , where he worked as a bailiff. In 1775 he was appointed chief commissioner. From 1780 he worked at the Packhof in Braunschweig, where customs duties were collected for all goods arriving in the city. The Braunschweig trade fairs also fell within his area of ​​responsibility . In 1791 Ribbentrop received the title of Chamber and Commerce Council.

Ribbentrop wrote several legal writings. Its two-volume, detailed description of the city of Braunschweig from 1789 to 1791 is significant , and it also contains a history of the city after previous city chroniclers such as Andreas Schoppius or Christoph Gerke had left their works only as manuscripts.

family

Since September 1766 Ribbentrop was married to the daughter of the judiciary Johann Friedrich Unger (arithmetic) from Einbeck . Of the five daughters and six sons, the general manager of the Prussian army, Friedrich Ribbentrop (1768–1841), was known who led the Quadriga of the Brandenburg Gate back from Paris to Berlin.
