Philip Dizack

Philip "Phil" Dizack (* 1985 ) is an American jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn , composition ) of the Post Bop .

Live and act

Dizack, who is from Milwaukee , came into contact with jazz music early on; his father traded in audiophile equipment. At the age of ten he started playing musical instruments, first alto saxophone and trombone, before switching to the trumpet. He attended Milwaukee High School of the Arts (graduated in 2003); he then toured with the big band Stan Getz / Clifford Brown All Stars under the direction of Justin DiCioccio in the United States, Canada and Japan. From 2003 he studied at the Manhattan School of Music and worked in the New York jazz scene from the early 2000s. The first recordings were made in 2005 with Harvie Swartz's band ( Funky Cha ). In the following years he played a. a. with Gregory Tardy ( He Knows My Name ), Janelle Reichman, Emily Asher, Miho Hazama , Brian Lynch ( Presents Madera Latino ), Paolo Sapia and in Daniel Jamieson 's Danjam Orchestra.

In 2005 Dizack's debut album Beyond a Dream was released on Fresh Sound Records . End of an Area at Truth Revolution Records followed in 2012 . In 2013 he recorded the album Single Soul for Criss Cross Jazz with Ben Wendel , Eden Ladin (piano), Joe Sanders (bass) and Eric Harland . In the field of jazz he was involved in 14 recording sessions between 2005 and 2019. In 2019 he led a quintet that includes Immanuel Wilkins (alto saxophone), Barry Stephenson (bass), Micah Thomas (piano) and Kush Abadey (drums); he also works with Lucas Pino , Or Bareket and Tivon Pennicott . In Switzerland he was on tour with the group Roiin around singer Corinne Nora Huber .

Awards

Dizack received third place in the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Competition in 2004 , and in 2005 he was the winner of the National Trumpet Competition . Also in 2005 he won the Carmine Caruso International Solo Jazz Competition .
