Philipp Schmid (born May 7, 1986 in Lindenberg im Allgäu ) is a former German ski racer who specialized in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom . He belonged to the B-squad of the German Ski Association and was a member of the customs ski team of the Federal Customs Administration .

biography

Philipp Schmid took part in FIS races for the first time in December 2001 , and made his debut in the European Cup three years later . At the beginning of 2005 he showed his first successes when he stood on the podium for the first time in an FIS race and shortly afterwards became German junior champion in slalom. At the Junior World Championships 2005 in Bardonecchia , however, he only achieved 47th place in the giant slalom. In the slalom he was disqualified in the second round. In the following years Schmid was thrown back from injuries. After a cruciate ligament rupture in the 2006/07 season, he was only able to take part in races in February.

On February 17, 2008 Schmid won his first European Cup points as the 28th of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen slalom . Four weeks later he became German runner-up in giant slalom behind Felix Neureuther . In the 2009/10 season he achieved top 20 placements in the European Cup for the first time and his first victory in an FIS race. On March 1st, 2009 he started in the slalom of Kranjska Gora for the first time in a World Cup race . As the 45th of the first run, he missed the qualification for the second round of the best 30 by exactly one second. For the time being, this was his only World Cup start. At the German championships in 2009 Schmid came third in the slalom. In 2010 he won two silver medals in the national championships in slalom and giant slalom, where he was only a hundredth of a second behind the winner, Stefan Kogler .

At the beginning of the 2010/11 season Schmid had to take a break for several weeks due to an injury. On January 16, 2011, he achieved his first top 10 result in the European Cup with sixth place in the Kirchberg in Tirol slalom . After several victories in FIS races in February, it was used for the second time in the World Cup on March 6, 2011. In the slalom of Kranjska Gora, he achieved 20th place with the ninth fastest time in the finals, with which he won World Cup points for the first time. Schmid has been a regular participant in World Cup slaloms since winter 2011/12. His best World Cup result was tenth place in Levi's slalom on November 11, 2012. Two weeks later he achieved the first European Cup podium finish in the same place with third place in the slalom. On December 12, 2012, Schmid suffered cartilage damage in the European Cup slalom in Obereggen .

In 2018 he ended his career after a recurring knee injury.
