politics

From summer 2018 to autumn 2019 Strache was the FPÖ's voluntary animal welfare officer. She was also responsible for the appearance of her husband, then Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache (FPÖ), on social media . For these activities, Strache is said to have received a monthly salary of 9500 euros , despite the public declaration that he is working on a voluntary basis . Since September 2019, she and her husband have been in public criticism for unfair expense reports in the area of the FPÖ, including expensive personal purchases, but also parking fines to be paid.

Strache ran for the FPÖ in the 2019 National Council election . Her final entry into the National Council was initially unclear because of discussions about expense reports and because of the electoral arithmetic.

On October 7th, the FPÖ announced that Harald Stefan wanted to renounce his basic mandate and thus move into the National Council via the state list, whereby Strache would not have received a mandate. However, on October 9, 2019, the state electoral authority announced that Harald Stefan was not allowed to renounce his basic mandate and that Strache was therefore definitely entitled to a mandate on the state list. Thereupon the federal party chairman Norbert Hofer and the designated club chairman Herbert Kickl immediately declared that the FPÖ would not accept Philippa Strache into their parliamentary club . Her anti-party behavior was accused in connection with a written statement by Strache, in which she had declared that she would accept her mandate and had also complained about a "defamation campaign" by the FPÖ against her person. Since then, Strache has been a wild member of the National Council and, despite her mandate, has largely withdrawn from public and political life in Austria.
