Rotaliana plain
The Rotaliana plain ( Italian Piana Rotaliana , also Pianura Rotaliana or Campo Rotaliano ) is an alluvial plain in the Adige Valley in the Italian province of Trento .
geography
The plain, located south of the Salurner Klause about 20 km north of Trento , extends from the confluence of the Non Valley into the Adige Valley to the Adige and is bordered south by the Noce river, which comes out of the Non Valley . The Piana Rotaliana has the shape of an extensive triangle with the Gola di Rocchetta at its apex , a striking narrow point at the transition into the Val di Non. It is surrounded in the west and south-west by the steep rock faces of the Paganella massif and in the north-west by the southern foothills of the Mendelkamm , which create favorable climatic conditions. It can be reached via the Brenner motorway and the state road 43 della Val di Non .
The Piana Rotaliana is known as a wine-growing region , especially for the Teroldego , which has a DOC -protected status with the Teroldego Rotaliano . Goethe described the Rotaliana plain in his travel report Italian trip as "the most beautiful vineyard in Europe".
Political division
Administratively, the plain belongs to the municipalities of Mezzocorona and Mezzolombardo as well as to the municipality of San Michele all'Adige whose Grumo fraction is on the orographic right side of the Adige. The three municipalities together with the neighboring municipalities of Lavis , Roverè della Luna and Terre d'Adige form the valley community Comunità Rotaliana-Königsberg . Historically, the municipality of Giovo , at the entrance to the Cembra Valley , is also part of the area. Together with Faedo, it formed a political unit in the 12th century as Comitatus Zovi et Faedi .
