Pierre Prüm (born July 9, 1886 in Ulflingen , † February 1, 1950 in Clervaux ) was a Luxembourg politician and Minister of State from 1925 to 1926.

Life

Pierre Prüm studied law at the Catholic University in Leuven . There he became a member of the KAV Lovania Löwen , a Catholic student association with which the CV was friends, after having been an active member of the pennal country team and student holiday association Amicitia Luxemburgensis in the last years of his school days . Shortly after completing his lawyer training, he was elected to the Luxembourg Parliament (the Chamber ). In 1918 he left the right-wing party ( Rietspartei ) and founded the Independent National Party ( Onofhangeg National Party ).

After the Reuter government resigned , there were new elections in 1925. The election result brought nine parties into the Chamber . Since the Right Party, the previous ruling party, had lost an absolute majority and did not want to form a coalition, on March 20, 1925, a governing coalition was formed between the Independent National Party, the Liberals, the Socialists and defectors of the Right Party. As the new Prime Minister, Prüm also took over the post of Foreign, Interior and Agriculture Minister.

On July 16, 1926, after just 16 months, the parties broke up when the liberals and socialists could not agree on a bill. Pierre Prüm was thereupon until 1936 judge at the peace court in Clervaux.

In 1934 he joined the initially Pan-Germanic Society for German Literature and Art ( GEDELIT ), which increasingly became a reservoir for staunch National Socialists and which was brought into line with the Volksdeutsche movement (VdB) after the occupation of Luxembourg in 1940 .

In 1937 he was re-elected as a member of the Chamber for the Northern District.

In 1946, Pierre Prüm was sentenced to four years in prison for failing to resist and thus allegedly collaborating with the German occupiers.
