Pierre peace

Pierre Frieden (born October 28, 1892 in Mertert , † February 23, 1959 in Zurich ) was a Luxembourgish Christian social politician and writer.

Between 1912 and 1916, Frieden studied philosophy and literature in Luxembourg , Freiburg im Üechtland , Zurich , Geneva and Munich . In 1919, Frieden accepted a position as a teacher at the Diekirch grammar school . He later moved to the Athenaeum in Luxembourg and finally to the Cours Supérieur .

From 1929 to 1942 he was director of the Bibliothèque nationale de Luxembourg. On October 1, 1942, he was released by the Nazi regime. Between September 18 and November 4, 1942 he was imprisoned in the Hinzert concentration camp .

After the liberation of Luxembourg in 1944, peace became Minister for Education, Culture and Science in the cabinet of Prime Minister Pierre Dupong . On July 3, 1951, he also took over the interior department from Eugène Schaus . After Dupong's death in December 1953, he kept these offices in the cabinet of Dupong's successor Joseph Bech .

On March 29, 1958, after the resignation of Bech, Frieden was elected Prime Minister of Luxembourg. In December 1958 he resigned for health reasons and died a short time later at the age of 66.

Pierre Frieden had been married to Madeleine Frieden-Kinnen, the first Luxembourg minister , since 1946 .
