Piet Wildschut (born October 25, 1957 in Leeuwarden ) is a former Dutch football player .
Career
society
Wildschut began his professional career at FC Groningen in 1974/75 in the Eerste Divisie . After two years in the second division, Twente coach Antoine Kohn and player agent Ton van Dalen became aware of the defender and signed him for the 1976/77 season for the Ensched team. There he met old friends from Groningen such as Jaap Bos , Ab Gritter and Sip Bloemberg . Wildschut, then only eighteen years old, immediately prevailed and was henceforth an important pillar in the defensive network of the FCT . In his first league game against Ajax Amsterdam , the left full-back was able to mark a goal and thus had a good debut. After completing its first year in Enschede, the team won the KNVB Cup . During the winter break of 1978/79, the defensive player transferred to PSV Eindhoven . Until the summer of 1985 he was always in the top five of the league with his team. More than three vice championship titles could not be celebrated. After the PSV station, Wildschut went abroad. The Belgian club Royal Antwerp signed the defender. But after a year the two parties separated and Wildschut moved back to Roda JC Kerkrade in the Eredivisie . With Roda he reached the final of the national cup again in 1988, but had to admit defeat 2: 3 to his old employer Eindhoven. The year before they reached fourth place in the league. It was the best placement in the club's history so far. It wasn't until 1995 that the club ranked better again. Because of an ankle injury and because he saw no more opportunities under new coach Jan Reker , Wildschut ended his active career after the 1987/88 season. There were brief contacts with VfB Stuttgart , which was looked after by Arie Haan , but Wildschut cancels.
National team
On April 5, 1978 Wildschut made his debut for the Dutch national team in the friendly against Tunisia . There he replaced the then injured Hugo Hovenkamp , who was considered one of the best left-backs in the world at the time. Shortly thereafter, Wildschut was nominated for the squad for the Football World Cup 1978 in Argentina. There he was used in three encounters. In the 2: 3 preliminary round defeat in the last group game against Scotland , national coach Ernst Happel replaced him at halftime for Wim Rijsbergen . It was his first game under competitive conditions for the Oranje Elftal . In the second round Wildschut played against Austria and West Germany . He was in the starting line-up in both games, but only played the full 90 minutes against Austria. In the final of the cup, which the Netherlands lost 3-1 after extra time against Argentina , Wildschut was only a spectator. On October 11, 1978, in a 3-1 away win against Switzerland , Wildschut scored his only goal for the Netherlands. The defender played his last game in his home country on April 14, 1982 against Greece .
