Pietroasa ( Hungarian Vasaskőfalva ) is a municipality in the Bihor district in Romania .

location

Pietroasa is located on the Crișul Pietros stream - a tributary of the Crișul Negru ( Black Screech ) - on the western edge of the Bihor Mountains in the Kreisch area . The district capital Oradea is located about 70 km northwest.

population

Of the approximately 3,300 inhabitants of the municipality, around 900 live in the actual village of Pietroasa. In 2002 913 of the 914 inhabitants at that time referred to themselves as Romanians .

In 2002 a total of 3458 people lived in the entire municipality, 3267 of them Romanians, 187 Roma , 3 Hungarians , and 1 of an unspecified other nationality.

Pietroasa is on the county road 763, which branches off from the European road 79 in the Crișul Negru valley near Sudrigiu . Buses run several times a day from the village to the nearest city of Beiuș and Oradea (as of 2008). The nearest train station is about ten kilometers west of the town in Sudrigiu on the Vașcau – Ciumeghiu railway line .

Attractions

The most famous tourist attraction of the community is the stalactite cave Peştera Urşilor (about Bear Cave ) near the district of Chişcău . A few hundred meters away there is an ethnographic museum.

Pietroasa is the starting point for hikes in the Bihor Mountains.
