The Piz Val Gronda ( 2812 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Samnaun group on the border between Graubünden and Tyrol .
, also Piz da Val Gronda ) isLocation and surroundings
The Piz Val Gronda lies west of the Vesilspitze ( Rhaeto-Romanic : Piz Rots , 3,097 m above sea level ) above the Fimbatal , a side valley of the Paznaun . In the south lies the Val Sinestra , a side valley of the Engadine . The border between the municipalities of Ischgl (Tyrol, Austria) and Scuol (Canton of Graubünden, Switzerland) runs across the summit . Until the end of 2014, the south side belonged to the political municipality of Sent . The municipalities of Ischgl, Scuol and Valsot (until the end of 2012 municipality of Ramosch ) meet on the Fuorcla Val Gronda ( 2750 m ) crossing , which connects the Fimbatal with the Val Sinestra . Here is also the headwaters of the Brancla , a left tributary of the Inn .
Bases and paths
The Heidelberger Hütte , the most important base when climbing the mountain, is located in the Fimbatal in Swiss territory . From here the summit can be reached in around two hours. A marked path leads to Forcella Furcla Fenga Pitschna , from there to the summit of the southwest is pathless reached. Alternatively, the path can be followed further to Fuorcla da Val Gronda ( 2752 m ), just southeast of the summit, and then the pathless climb over the southeast ridge. From the east, the Fuorcla da Val Gronda can be reached on the marked path in about an hour from the Zeblasjoch ( 2539 m ).
The Piz Val Gronda is also a popular ski tour destination , with the Heidelberger Hütte often serving as the starting point.
Development plans
The mountain is the bone of contention between the operator of the Silvretta Arena in Ischgl , who published plans for the first time in 1976, which envisaged the development of the Piz Val Gronda through the Vesil valley and thus the connection to the Ischgl ski area, and the Silvretta Alliance , a merger the hut-operating section Heidelberg, as well as DAV , SAC , ÖAV and the International Alpine Protection Commission CIPRA , which has been trying to prevent the project since then.
While the Silvretta Arena repeatedly submitted new applications for the construction of such a cable car to the responsible Tyrolean state government, none of which were approved, the Silvretta Alliance did not succeed in stopping the project in the long term. For example, the attempt to set up a quiet zone south of the Gampenbahn, towards the Austrian-Swiss border and spatially beyond, failed due to resistance from the neighboring communities.
Development
In 2012 a new application from the Ischgl cable car was approved. This provides for the development, among other things, with a cable car with fewer pillars and a different route for the descent, as well as dispensing with avalanche barriers. The opponents of the project ensured that the case is now being negotiated on a European level. The system, a 2,452 meter long aerial tramway on just two supports with two cabins for 150 people, was put into operation on December 20, 2013.
