occupation

Suddenly fat! is a German - Austrian comedy film and a love story by director Holger Haase from 2011. In the lead role , Sebastian Ströbel embodies Nick, who is blessed with a well-toned body and has a negative attitude towards overweight people.

action

Nick, who was always teased by others in his childhood and youth because of his high body weight , is now a grown man with a well-toned body and manager of a fitness studio. The women are at his feet, and he has developed an aversion to corpulent people.

The somewhat plump Eva is a baker in the hotel, which is located above Nick's gym. Eva's friend Paul is uncomfortable with her fullness. As luck would have it, Eva, of all people, wins a training session with Nick in a raffle, but where she immediately feels his aversion to overweight people. She fills out the satisfaction questionnaire with negative criticism, but this is captured by a gust of wind. When she tries to recapture the bow, she falls from the roof of the hotel. Once at the bottom and awakened from unconsciousness, she suddenly finds herself in a slim body. Somehow a miracle must have happened, because at the same time the once well-trained Nick weighs 180 kg, who even collapses chairs by sitting on them.

From now on Nick suffers not only from his sudden weight, but also from the pitying looks of those who meet him. In Eva, of all people, he finds the person who, based on his own experience, gives him support in his situation. When Eva falls in love with the attractive newspaper reporter Benjamin in her slim body, Nick initially believes that he has lost her too. However, Eva realizes that she basically loves Nick. She rushes to the now bankrupt gym and meets Nick, who is sitting lonely on the roof parapet of the hotel. In the meantime, Nick has also realized that he placed too much emphasis on the appearance of other people.

Eva sits down next to Nick on the parapet, the two get closer, and just before the two of them kiss, they fall from the parapet into the depths. Nick is then slim again, Eva has her full figure again. When Eva sees Nick's slender face again at this point, she tells him that everything is back to normal. Nick says no and kisses her.

The plot ends romantically with Nick and Eva walking arm in arm through the old town of Vienna and Nick remarking to Eva that “a man without a stomach is like a sky without stars”.

criticism

The production received mixed reviews. For example, TV Spielfilm judges with a thumb stretched to the side: "The charm of Amft and Ströbel makes the naive fairy tale bearable". The somewhat derogatory conclusion of the program guide is: "Thick, but very transparent".

The film critic Rainer Tittelbach states: "[...] the cast with the sympathetic, comedy-experienced" Lust actress "Diana Amft instead of some padded hunger peg was the best possible choice".

The lexicon of the international film sums up: “Fairy-tale-like trivial (television) comedy according to common patterns, solidly played and staged at the usual level. In some scenes the film shows empathy for the outsiders of a performance society suffering from fitness and beauty madness. "
