Landscape around the shores of Lake Titicaca

The Platería district is located in the Puno Province in the Puno region in southern Peru . The district was established on April 25, 1964. It has an area of ​​245 km². The 2017 census counted 7,469 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 9,287, in 2007 8,268. The district administration is based in the 3830  m high town of Platería with 529 inhabitants (as of 2017). Platería is located 24 km east-southeast of the regional and provincial capital Puno .

Geographical location

The Platería district is located on the west bank of Lake Titicaca in the central northeast of the Puno province. The district comprises the southern part of the Chucuito peninsula, which is connected to the country, as well as the islands of Chilata and Quipata.

The Platería district is bordered to the east and the south by the district Acora , in the southwest of the district Pichacani and in the northeast on the district Chucuito .
