Playtone is an American film and television production company . Numerous soundtracks were released on the associated music label Play-Tone .

The company was founded in 1998 by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman and is based in Santa Monica .

history

Hanks and Goetzman met in 1993 while working on Philadelphia , in which Hanks played the lead role and Goetzman was executive producer . When Hanks wrote his first script for That Thing You Do! (1996), he asked Goetzman to produce the film and write some songs. The first release on the music label Play-Tone - whose name goes back to the fictional record company "Play Tone Records" featured in the film - was the soundtrack for That Thing You Do! . The first film produced by Playtone was Cast Away from 2000.

As a result, Playtone produced numerous internationally known films and television series.
