Systematics and distribution

The genus Podranea was established in 1904 by Thomas Archibald Sprague in William Henry Harvey and OW Sonder: Flora Capensis, ... , Volume 4, Section 2, pages 449-450. The genus name Podranea is an anagram for Pandorea , a closely related Australian plant genus, from which the species Podranea ricasoliana was placed in its own genus.

The genus Podranea distributed from the southern tropical to southern Africa. The pink trumpet wine ( Podranea ricasoliana ) has become a neophyte as a horticulturist from Central America to tropical South America, in parts of Australia and New Zealand .

There are only two species in the genus Podranea :

The two types are quite similar. Outwardly, they only differ in the size of the luab leaves and the hairiness of the flowers. Some botanists consider them not to be independent and combine both into a single species.

use

The pink trumpet wine ( Podranea ricasoliana ) is used as an ornamental plant in tropical parks and gardens and in rooms worldwide.
