Jackie Chan's first strike ( Chinese  警察 故事 4 之 簡單 任務 , Pinyin Jǐngchá Gùshì Sì zhi Jiǎndān Rènwu , Jyutping Ging 2 Caat 3 Gu 3 Si 3 Sei 3 Zi 1 Gaan 2 Daan 1 Jam 6 Mou 6 , English Police Story 4 - First Strike  - "Police Story 4 - Simple Order", other titles see below) is an action and martial arts film with Jackie Chan, produced in Hong Kong in 1996 . It is the fourth installment in the Police Story series.

action

This time Jackie, the "Supercop", has a supposedly simple job: He is supposed to shadow a certain Natascha who is flying to the Ukraine and then report to the CIA . But as soon as she got there, Natascha is arrested by the army and apparently kidnapped. Jackie immediately starts the chase and sees how Natascha - having arrived at the destination - meets her lover Tsui. This, it turns out, is a former CIA agent who stole a nuclear warhead and now wants to sell it to arms dealers.

First Jackie can chase the suitcase from Tsui in a wild chase, but then he loses it to Tsui when he falls into the ice-cold water of a lake. When he wakes up again in the hospital, the Russian Colonel Yegorov comes up to him and asks him to hunt Tsui off the warhead. Jackie agrees and is taken to Australia , where he takes up the chase and visits Tsui's sister and her terminally ill father. On whose bed it then to address Tsui, but it turns out that this of Yegorov, at the time KGB - agent , was forced to theft of nuclear warhead, otherwise Natascha would be killed. And Yegorov's people have already been on Jackie's heels to kill him now that he has found Tsui.

When the killers kill Tsui's father, the first suspicion falls on Jackie, so that on the one hand he has to convince Tsui's family of his innocence and on the other hand hunt down the Russians. After a grueling battle, he wins Tsui's family with the help of a ladder; the Russians, who disrupt the funeral of Tsui's father and kidnap Tsui's sister, he can ultimately defeat in an Ozeaneum by racing into the escape boat in a sports car. Jackie, for whom a new assignment is in the works, is rehabilitated and Tsui and Yegorov arrested.

Reviews

"Everything you would expect from a real Jackie Chan adventure: breakneck stunts, crazy action and lots of situation gossip."

“To criticize Chan's films doesn't just mean fighting the wind head-on, but also questioning the taste organs of true fan legions. [...] In First Strike, too, Chan hampers around again, wears a penguin costume, jokes with a panda bear, warms himself under a seal hat and grins half the film along with his bulbous nose. In spite of everything, the film is a James Bond-influenced action film, the story of which is once again nothing more than the hook for various action scenes, the first of which, a breakneck chase on skis, is one of the best that Chan has ever offered. "

Trivia

  • Other titles of the film are: "First Strike", "Jackie Chan's First Strike" (US-American title; German TV title), "First Strike - Jackie Chan's first strike" (German TV title), "Police Story 4", "Police Story 4: First Strike", "Police Story 4: Piece of Cake" and "Police Story 4: Story of the CIA".
  • There is a shorter version for the USA. This is 88 minutes long, has been re-dubbed, has a new opening credits and new music.
  • Jackie Chan suffered a severe lip injury while stunted with the ladder and became severely hypothermic (without consequences) when he jumped from a helicopter into a partially frozen lake.
  • The film was commercially successful in both Hong Kong and the United States.
  • Jackie Chan's first strike (Police Story 4) is not an official successor to Police Story 3. It was originally named that way because of the promotion and for PR reasons. In addition to this film by Jackie Chan, there are other films whose titles were named based on well-known Jackie Chan film series for PR reasons. This can be seen from the names of the characters that Jackie Chan embodies in his films. The name of his character in Police Story 4 (first strike) is "Jackie Chan", while in Police Story 3 he is called "Ka Kui Chan".

Awards

  • Hong Kong Film Awards 1997: Nominations in the categories “Best Actor” (Jackie Chan), “Best Editing” (Peter Cheung), “Best Newcomer” (Annie Wu), “Best Film”. Winner in the category "Best Action Choreography" (Jackie Chan, Stanley Tong).
  • MTV Movie Awards 1997: Nominated for "Best Fight Sequence" (Jackie Chan's fight with the ladder).
