Blue Dream - Death in the Rain is a German crime film by Bodo Fürneisen from 1993. The television film was released as the 157th episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 .
action
Like her best friend Natalie, the young Rita works as a waitress in the tavern owned by the couple Haller, which has been called Blue Dream since the expensive renovation last year . Business is bad and Hannelore Haller announces to Rita that she will only be able to use one waitress in the future. Especially Natalie is a thorn in the side of Hannelore, as she is the secret lover of her husband Willi Haller. Andreas, in turn, hates Natalie because he blames her for the failure of his marriage to Rita - Rita moved in with Natalie after the separation.
Natalie is planning a new future with Rita. Both want to go to Hamburg and open a boutique there. Natalie needs money for this, as she said to the management consultant that she would contribute 70,000 marks in equity to the store opening. She plans to get the money through blackmail , whereby Rita, as an accomplice, is also her protection. Natalie knows that Willi with the acquired in the armed forces, former NVA - Captain illegal Guido Welz arms sales from NVA stocks operates and it takes a lot of money. She demands 100,000 marks in hush money from Guido. He alerts Willi and meets with Natalie in the Blue Dream that evening . Andreas is there too, initiates a drunken argument and is beaten up by some guests after Rita provoked him in front of all the guests. When Natalie goes home after the shift, she is shot from behind.
Chief Inspector Tanja Voigt and Inspector Jens Hoffman begin the investigation. Natalie was shot with a Russian weapon, but there are hardly any possible perpetrators. Andreas had taken the bus home, which can be confirmed, Willi, Rita and the guests were still in the guest room and Hannelore had already gone to bed. Meanwhile, Willi reports to Guido that Natalie had someone who knew about it; both suspect that Rita was privy to it. Guido gives Rita 20,000 marks to keep her silent, but Andreas brings the money back to him.
Shortly afterwards, an anonymous phone call made the police aware of the illegal weapons depot, which is located in a barn. Since Tanja Voigt does not know who is behind the camp and Guido refuses to give any information, she reports to Willi Haller about the find. He's packing his things in a hurry. When his dominant wife refuses to come with him and at the same time accuses him of not daring to flee anyway, he makes it clear to her that he would have left her shortly and would have gone with Natalie. She then reports him to Tanja Voigt as Natalie's murderer and leads the investigators to a second arsenal in the inn. Rita and Andreas, on the other hand, testify to Tanja Voigt that Guido is Natalie's murderer. The investigators find the murder weapon in his house, but Guido claims it was not his; no fingerprints can be found.
Tanja Voigt learns that she has to hand the case over to the Federal Criminal Police Office because of the weapons found . In the short time she has left, she turns to Hannelore Haller, believing in a relationship act out of jealousy. Hannelore did not sleep at the time of the crime, but was in conversation with Rita, which she confirmed on the phone. Tanja Voigt sees in photos that Rita and Natalie had the same raincoats and Natalie was wearing hers when she was shot. She realizes that not Natalie but Rita should be shot, who was also wearing her raincoat on the day of the crime. She alerts her colleagues and goes to Rita's and Andreas' apartment, but nobody opens. Inside, Andreas, mad with jealousy, threatens Rita, prevents her from leaving the apartment and admits that he first wanted to kill himself and then her in revenge for the humiliation, but in the end Natalie's death was also good for a new start in their relationship. Andreas chokes Rita to the point of unconsciousness. Then he sets a fire in the room. Rita comes to and stabs Andreas in self-defense . Shortly afterwards, the police storm the building.

Dirk Schoedon as Commissioner Jens Hoffmann appears here for the first time as a partner of Tanja Voigt.
The title music by Hartmut Behrsing , which was used in GDR times, can be heard for the last time in this film .
criticism
“As so often, too much of a good thing was done in order to lure the overfed, uncomfortable television crowd. Too much effort, too many stories in the story, everything so convulsive and strenuous, ”summarized the Stuttgarter Zeitung . In retrospect, however, the Stuttgarter Zeitung described the 1997 episode as "undoubtedly one of the best films in the series in recent years, not only thanks to a brilliant Katja Riemann." "Ostkrimi with a relatively cool sass," said TV Spielfilm .
