Ponedera is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Atlántico in Colombia .

Ponedera is located in the Centro-Oriente sub-region in Atlántico at an altitude of 10 m above sea level. NN , 40 km from Barranquilla and has an average annual temperature of 28 ° C. The eastern border of the municipality forms the Río Magdalena . The municipality borders in the north on Palmar de Varela , in the south on Campo de la Cruz and Candelaria , in the west on Sabanalarga and in the east on Remolino and Salamina in the Departamento del Magdalena .

The municipality of Ponedera has 23,578 inhabitants, of which 11,819 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

Ponedera was founded in 1743 by Francisco Pérez de Vargas. Ponedera has had parish status since 1965.
