Puerto Colombia is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Atlántico in Colombia . Puerto Colombia is located directly on the Caribbean and is part of the Barranquilla metropolitan area , the metropolitan area of Barranquilla .

Puerto Colombia is located 13 kilometers west of Barranquilla directly on the Caribbean Sea . The annual average temperature is 28 ° C. Most of the municipality's territory is flat. There are some wetlands . The community is bordered by the Caribbean in the north, Barranquilla in the east and south-east and Tubará in the west and south-west .

history

The history of Puerto Colombia began in 1888 with the construction of the pier that served as a port for Barranquilla . The city, which received parish status in 1905, was Colombia's main port for the first four decades of the twentieth century. Puerto Colombia lost its importance with the construction of the port of Barranquilla. The pier has now partially collapsed.
