history
The first written mention of Gerungishain dates from 1350. According to records, the early place name can be traced back to the bishop Gerung von Meißen . The ending “-hain” suggests the clearing of the settlement site - the nearby towns of Ammelshain , Altenhain , Albrechtshain and others allow this conclusion.
Gerichshain was an administrative village in Leipzig until 1516 . Until Duke Georg von Sachsen sold it to his court master to the knight Rudolf von Bünau on Brandis for 575 guilders in 1512 .
Before the Reformation around 1539 to 1930, Gerichshain was a branch church of Brandis. Since 1932 it has been a branch church of Borsdorf. The district of Posthausen (1551 Vorwerk of the Brandis manor) has been parish to Gerichshain since 1752. After 1945, the church organization was subject to frequent changes depending on the political situation, but mostly connected with Borsdorf. The parish of Gerichshain-Althen has existed since 2001 - a sister parish of the parish of Borsdorf-Zweenfurth. The church was built in 1784–85.
Gerichshain was part of the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon District Office in Leipzig until 1856 . Posthausen was temporarily part of the Leipzig district office and the Grimma estate . From 1856 both places belonged to the Brandis court office and from 1875 to the Grimma district administration . In 1837 Gerichshain was connected to the first German long-distance railway from Leipzig to Dresden . In 1838 a freight loading point was set up at Posthausen to the east - at times also a freight station - the freight station was closed in 1998 and then dismantled.
On March 1, 1994, the municipality of Gerichshain with its district Posthausen (until 1880 a separate municipality, then incorporated into Gerichshain) as well as the municipality of Püchau to Machern. The municipality of Gerichshain had an area of 10.05 km².
