The ViP Potsdam GmbH (ViP → acronym for traffic operation in Potsdam ) operates the substantial part of the public transport (public transport) in Potsdam . The company is a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Potsdam GmbH .
Today, as a partner of the VBB , the transport company operates seven tram and 25 bus routes as well as a ferry connection. With a route network of around 337 kilometers, around 34 million passengers annually use the public transport service, which is considered to be particularly extensive and well-priced.
history
With the new legal form of the GmbH, the former VEB Verkehrsbetrieb Potsdam was renamed Verkehrsbetrieb in Potsdam (ViP) in December 1990 and has been a subsidiary of the Stadtwerke Potsdam since January 1994.
In addition to the Potsdam tram and diesel buses, there was also a trolleybus network, the Potsdam trolleybus, until 1995 . The two lines A and B (from May 1991 lines 690 and 691) operated between Babelsberg and Drewitz . The trolleybus operation was stopped on January 22, 1995.
According to the "principles of a new transport policy" adopted in 1991, the tram network was expanded in the following years.
