The 44th psalm is a psalm of the sons of Korah . It belongs to the series of lamentations of the people.

structure

Usually the psalm is structured as follows:

  1. V. 2–9: Review of salvation history.
  2. V. 10-23: Description of the present catastrophe.
  3. V. 24-27: Final request for an end to the catastrophe through the intervention of YHWH .

interpretation

As the central message of the psalm, Hermann Gunkel elaborates the contrast between past and present. The Jewish suffering in the face of the golden past, all the more with the plight of the current situation.
