Psalm 66
The 66th psalm is a psalm from the second book of the psalter . According to the Greek count of the Septuagint , which is also used by the Latin Vulgate , the psalm bears the number 65.
Content and structure
Originally the psalm was probably a liturgy or consisted of two separate songs. Accordingly, it can be divided into two parts. In the first part, all peoples are asked to thank God for the salvation that he has given his people. This first part can in turn be divided into two subsections. While verses 1-7 are performed by a choir, verses 8-12 are a song of the church. The second part is an individual's song of thanksgiving for salvation from a distress.
reception
The hymn Jauchzt, alle Lande, Gott in honor of Matthias Jorissen from 1798 is based on Psalm 66.
