Psalm 89

The 89th psalm is a Psalm of Etans , the Esrachite and is the last psalm of the third book of psalms.

structure

The psalm can be divided into the following sections:

Sela

  • Verse 6-15: Then he extols God's power, righteousness and grace ( Ps 89 : 6-15  SLT )
  • Verses 16-19: He praises God with reference to the people, whose glory and strength this is ( Ps 89 : 16-19  SLT )
  • Verses 20–38: Etan describes the covenant that God made with David ( Ps 89.20–38  SLT )

Sela

  • Verses 39–46: He speaks about the contradiction of the present with the covenant promises in verses 20–38 ( Ps 89,39–46  SLT )

Sela

  • Verse 47-49: Etan asks how long this state should last and describes the brevity of life ( Ps 89.47-49  SLT )

Sela

  • Verses 49–52: He asks God to spread his proofs of grace anew over his people ( Ps 89,49–52  SLT )
  • Verse 53: The whole thing closes with praise and a double amen ( Ps 89,53  SLT )
