content

The psalmist uses the style of prophetic criticism. He turns against a rich and powerful opponent who persecutes him with slander and also boasts of it. However, his plans must fail, since the righteous know that they are safe in the goodness of God. On the basis of this certainty, the criminal judgment is announced to the offender in the manner of the enemy psalms . So complete will the punishment be that the righteous will not only emerge victorious from this conflict, but will shudder at the majesty of God revealed in His judgment. In the last two verses, the fate of the wicked is contrasted with the reward of the pious.
