Psalm 70

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Psalm 70 is a psalm from the Bible. It is in the second book of the Psalter and is attributed to David , making it one of the Davidic psalms . The headline is “For the Choirmaster. From David. To the incense offering ”. The psalm is almost identical to the second part of Psalm 40 .

The psalm belongs to the genus of lamenting psalms . Its opening verse, "God, Come here to save me, Lord, make haste to help me!" ( Ps 70.2  EU ) is called vesicles (opening verse) in the liturgy of the hours used of the church. In the remaining verses, the speaker complains of unjust persecution and the glee of others about harm suffered. But the speaker trusts that God will stand by everyone as long as they seek him. The scorn should fall back on the scoffers themselves.
