The 108th psalm is a psalm of David from the fifth book of the psalter .

Structure and classification

The psalm is a hymn of praise to God in which the confidence in salvation, even in distress, is expressed. He brings together parts of two psalms. Verses 2 to 6 correspond largely to Psalm 57.8–12 EU , while verses 7 to 14, apart from some minor differences, correspond to Psalm 60.7–14 EU .
According to the Greek count, which is used by the Vulgate as well as the Septuagint , the psalm bears the number 107.

reception

The hymn I want to thank you, Herr von Paul Ernst Ruppel from 1964 is based on verses 4 to 6 of the 108th Psalm. In the hymn Lord our God, don't let yourself be put to shame from 1630 (EG 247), Johann Heermann takes up verses 13f. on.
