Psalm 59
The 59th Psalm is a Psalm of David and was sung to the tune "Do not spoil!" ( Ps 59.1 SLT ). This melody is also used in Psalm 57 ( Ps 57.1 SLT ), Psalm 58 ( Ps 58.1 SLT ) and Psalm 75 ( Ps 75.1 SLT ).
structure
The psalm can be divided into the following sections:
- Verse 2–3: request for salvation ( Ps 59,2–3 SLT )
- Verses 4–5: Complaint against his enemies ( Ps 59,4–5 SLT )
- Verse 6: request for righteousness ( Ps 59,6 SLT )

- Verses 7–8: Complaint against his enemies ( Ps 59,7–8 SLT )
- Verses 9-11: David puts his trust in God ( Ps 59,9-11 SLT )
- Verses 12-14: Prayer for righteousness ( Ps 59.12-14 SLT )

- Verse 17-18: David praises and thanks God for his salvation ( Ps 59.17-18 SLT )
Dating
Many interpreters assume that this psalm was written in the time of 1 Sam 19 : 11-17 SLT .
interpretation
In Ps 59.7 to 14 SLT mentioned situation is in Ps 59.15 to 18 SLT picked up again. While David asks for a confusion of his enemies in Ps 59,12 SLT : "Let them wander about by your power and overthrow them", he already speaks in Ps 59,16 SLT of the fulfillment of his request.
