Psalm 103 ( Luttrell Psalter )
The 103rd Psalm (according to Greek counting the 102nd) is a Psalm of David and belongs to the series of individual hymns .
structure
The psalm can be structured as follows:
- Verse 1f .: Introduction: Addressing the poet to his own soul
- Verses 3–5: First main part of the hymn: Praising YHWH's grace
- Verses 6–22: Longer hymn with a relatively general content
criticism
The Old Testament scholar Bernhard Duhm sees the psalm as a “ compilation of all sorts of beautiful sentences from a fairly extensive reading ”.
Church music reception
The song “ Now lob, mein Seel, den Herren ” by Johann Gramann is a copy of the 103rd Psalm. The songs “Sing to the Lord and praise him”, “Praise the Lord, my soul” and “Don't forget to thank the Eternal Lord ”are based on Psalm 103.
