Psalm 144
The 144th psalm is a psalm of David and belongs to the fifth and last book of the psalter .
content
First of all, the psalmist praises God (verses 1-2) and expresses his astonishment that God cares for people, even though they are actually ephemeral and small (verses 3-4). He then asks for God's intervention and help (verses 5–8) and proclaims how he will praise God (verses 9–11). Finally, he asks for prosperity for the people (vv. 12-14) and reminds that it is well for the people who have the Lord as God (v. 15).
The psalm shows some content- related parallels to Psalm 18 , another Psalm of David . For example, the 1st verse takes up Psalm 18.35 EU and the 10th verse has similarities with Psalm 18.51 EU .
reception
Heinrich Schütz bases his version in the Psalms of David (SWV 249) on the adaptation of the Becker Psalter .
