Psalm 16

The psalm can be broken down as follows:
- Verse 1: frame
- Verses 2–4: Confession of the prayer to YHWH and the pious as well as refusal to sacrifice to other gods
- Verse 5f: Description of the relationship to YHWH on the basis of land issues
- Verses 7–9: Description of the relationship: YHWH as master teacher
- Verse 10f: frame
Liturgical use
- In the Catholic Liturgy of the Hours , Psalm 16 is part of Compline (night prayers) on Thursday.
- At Jewish burials , after the coffin has been lowered and completely covered with earth, Psalm 16 is spoken.
