Illustration of Psalm 148 with Jesus Christ enthroned in heaven

The 148th psalm is a biblical psalm . Like the other psalms at the end of the psalter, it is a praise psalm.

content

The psalm is one great call to praise God. In the first half (verses 1-6) the upper world (the heavens , the stars and the angels ) is called for this. In the second part (verses 7-14) everything on earth (all people and living beings up to natural phenomena) is asked to praise God. As a final justification, verse 13 refers to the majesty of God and verse 14 to the help given to his people.

reception

The hymn Sings the song of joy over God by Dieter Hechtenberg from 1968 is inspired by Psalm 148.
