The 140th psalm is a biblical psalm from the fifth book of the psalter . It is a request psalm belonging to the group of David psalms .

The psalmist sees himself persecuted by slander and asks for God's protection. He asks for the punishment of his persecutors, but leaves it to God and not human vengeance . He confesses that the LORD is the defender of the defenseless.
