Psalm 93

Verse 5 on a board (here referred to as Psalm 92 because it follows the numbering of the Vulgate )

The 93rd Psalm (according to Greek counting the 92nd) is a psalm that celebrates YHWH's accession to the throne .

structure

The psalm can be broken down as follows:

  1. Verse 1: YHWH became king
  2. Verse 2: Like YHWH's newly placed earth, YHWH's throne is established
  3. Verse 3f: shields of YHWH's enemies
  4. Verse 5: Conclusion: fulfillment of the prophecy

interpretation

Often the psalm is understood eschatologically . Others dispute this view and see the psalm merely as a description of what the congregation experienced on the feast of the accession to the throne.

It can be interpreted that the "waters" (verse 4) represent the pagan peoples . So it is said is Isa 17:12  ELB :

“Woe to the roar of many peoples; they roar like the roar of the seas; and a rustling of peoples; like the rushing of mighty water they rush. "

Compare also Isa 8,7f. ELB .
