The psalm can be broken down as follows:

- Verses 3–7: God has rejected:
- Verses 3-5: Lament
- Verse 6f .: trust and request
- Verses 8-11: God has spoken
- Verses 12-14: God has rejected:
- Verse 12: Lament
- Verse 13f .: Please and trust
