Pranhartsberg is a place in the area of the cadastral community of the same name from Sitzendorf an der Schmida in the Hollabrunn district in Lower Austria .

meaning

Red-brown lady's slipper in the Pranhartsberg biotope

There are two circular moats in the area of the cadastral community :

  • Pranhartsberg I is a double circular trench system with diameters of 54 and 80 meters. Magnetic prospecting took place in 1999.
  • Pranhartsberg II is also a double circular trench system with diameters of 82 and 105 meters, which was magnetically prospected in 1998.

In addition, Pranhartsberg is one of the few large wetlands in the Weinviertel that can be classified as ecologically valuable. It consists of a flat marshland area of about 25 hectares (on average about 120 m wide Mulden-Bachtal with associated woodlands and reed areas ) and an adjacent dry grassland area of about 10 hectares - slope zone , which is partly relatively steep and through dry / warm and loamy / lime-rich site conditions.

The large area (with adjacent forest parcels around 40 hectares) forms a habitat for many endangered species (birds, butterflies, grasshoppers, beetles and plants) due to the close proximity of two very different areas. So you can find 9 different orchid species and another 8 completely protected species, such as B. the gold aster, the Turkish lily or the meadow pasque flower . In 2002 the Narenta dwarf beetle (Aulacochthebius narentinus), presumed to be extinct in Austria, was found in the area of the Pranhartsberg biotope.
