Prussian Column (Ubstadt)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prussian Column is a small memorial in Ubstadt-Weiher in the Karlsruhe district and commemorates four fallen soldiers : an officer and three soldiers from the crew . All four belonged to the Royal Prussian Uhlan Regiment No. 8 established in 1812 and fell on June 23, 1849 in a battle near Ubstadt as part of the fight against the " Baden Revolution ".

The war memorial erected by the regiment in early May 1850 is outside in a field near Ubstadt.

To the left of the memorial is an information board for the Ubstadt-Weiher Heimatverein . The board explains the fighting. - No information is given about the time and circumstances of the establishment (1850, by the 8th Uhlan Regiment, see above) of the “Prussian Column”.

The actual column with a classic Attic base in the Roman style has a smooth (not fluted ) shaft that breaks off at the top and is therefore without a capital .

Sans serif Latin letters that appear very “modern” (because unusual for the 19th century) are written on the front (front) of the base
