Profisch is a small settlement in the Wartburg district in Thuringia belonging to the Schweina district of Bad Liebenstein .

Profisch is located on the eastern edge of the moorland and is surrounded by three ponds on an agricultural connecting path from Schweina to Witzelroda . Schweina is one kilometer and the district town of Bad Salzungen is about seven kilometers away.

history

In the 13th century the village of Profisch was part of the castle district of Frankenstein Castle . In 1325 it was mentioned as Bruchfischa in a document, Heinrich von Frankenstein sold the Bruchfischa property to Count Berthold von Henneberg due to financial difficulties. Before that, there was also a change of fief: Wetzel von Stein had sold this fief to the Salzung knight Wolfram Schrimpf. The Henneberg property changed in 1353 with the inheritance of Katharina von Henneberg to the Thuringian Landgrave Friedrich the Strengen . From these it was added to the Altensteiner Burggut ( Amt Altenstein ) and shared its further fate.

The Sachsen-Meiningen chamber administration began in the 18th century with the development of agricultural model goods, the so-called domains. Profisch was also converted into a domain in 1722 and, according to an official description, had 186 acres of Artland, 29 acres of meadows and five acres of ponds. At the estate there were also two spring brooks that were suitable for breeding trout. Until 1915 Profisch remained in the property of the ducal domain administration and was managed by tenants. The arable land, some of which was quite productive, and the estate were offered for sale after the end of the First World War and thus distributed to different owners.

Since 2011, a branch of the Thuringian Luther Trail has passed Profisch close to the north, the already well-equipped hiking and cycling path connects Profisch with the neighboring towns of Gumpelstadt and Schweina, and the Wartburg town of Eisenach or Schmalkalden can also be easily reached as long-term destinations .
