Location of Wolfsberg in Bad Liebenstein

Wolfsberg is a former estate in the southern part of Bairoda in the city of Bad Liebenstein in the Wartburg district in Thuringia . The Wolfsberg estate was probably founded in the 18th century in the southern part of Bairoda.

location

Wolfsberg is located on the upper reaches of the Farnbach, a right tributary of the Werra. The Breiter Rennsteig , now a hiking trail, runs through Wolfsberg and led along the route of an old road from Herrenbreitungen over the Rennsteig west of the Inselsberg into the Emsetal and to Gotha . The highest point is the Große Wolfskuppe ( 459.5  m above sea level ) followed by the Kleiner Wolfkuppe ( 446.1  m above sea level ) both are made of red sandstone.

history

A historical border runs right through today's Bad Liebenstein district of Bairoda. While the western part was in the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen , since 1920 in the state of Thuringia, the eastern part with the name Beierode belonged to Hessen-Kassel ( rule Schmalkalden ) or Kurhessen and from 1866/68 to 1944 to the province of Hessen-Nassau in the kingdom Prussia . This area of Beierode was an exclave of the place Herrenbreitungen for centuries . The historical border runs along the Farnbach towards the south, still evidenced by some old boundary stones, and had also enclosed the small dry valley between the two Wolfsberg peaks, so this area across from Meimers also belonged to the area of the Herrenbreitungen Office in Prussia.

With the dissolution of the state of Prussia as a result of the Second World War , the victorious powers initiated some border adjustments. Bairoda – Beierode, which was divided over centuries, went, like the former Prussian part of the district of Herrschaft Schmalkalden, to the newly formed state of Thuringia . In the later division of the GDR districts and counties, the demarcation in this area was carried out taking into account the previous unification of Bairodas. The place was assigned to the Bad Salzungen district. As a result of an administrative reform, Bairoda was incorporated into the town of Meimers in 1974 after it had been part of the town of Bad Liebenstein until then.

Previous name of good Wolfsberg was Gluckshof / Glückshof . The sign now attached to the hiking trail at Wolfsberg defied this name in the form of Kuckuckshof .

With the affiliation to the Herrenbreitungen monastery , the Wolfsberg belonged to the territory of the Frankensteiner Vogtei .
A statistical overview from 1830 names the status, size and population of the Herrenbreiter exclaves:

"The Beierode farms with 3 houses and 28 souls, Winne with 3 houses and 18 souls and Wolfsberg with 1 house and 13 souls are all 3 electoral chamber estates."

Todays situation

The currently uninhabited Wolfsberg farm continues to be used for agriculture and is managed by its owners. It is located about 1.2 kilometers east of Meimers and about 3 kilometers south of the core town of Bad Liebenstein.
