The Progymnasium Bad Buchau (short: PG or PGBB) is a general education high school in Bad Buchau , which is sponsored by the city of Bad Buchau.

history

The "Lange Bau" as an economic building

The history of the school building, the “long building” named after its shape, begins in 1715 when the building abbess of the noble women's monastery , Maria Theresia von Montfort , signed a contract with the imperial city of Buchau. The monastery is therefore given responsibility for the Pfaffengraben so that it can build a large economic building there. In the course of secularization , the women's monastery was abolished in 1803. Because the royal court was over, the economic building was also superfluous. The Prince of Thurn and Taxis took over the entire facility. However, the building was not used for the existing schools.

Establishment of a Latin school

1806 was the transition of the city under the thyme and taxi rule " Principality Buchau no Latin School present" to the Kingdom of Württemberg. This was only founded in 1830 in agreement with the patron saint Maximilian Karl von Thurn und Taxis , as it was desired to set up a “ preceptorate ” similar to that in Riedlingen and other smaller towns . The Latin School, a chaplain school, was opened as a school for all citizens interested in education on July 25, 1831.

Schoolhouse of all municipal schools

In 1875 the city of Buchau bought the "Long Building" from the Prince of Thurn and Taxis. After three years of renovation work into classrooms and teachers' apartments, a wide variety of schools found space there in September 1879: the Latin and Realschule, the Christian elementary school with three classes, the Israelite school and a school for small children. The fact that the school had, in addition to a drawing room and a modeling room, also a gymnasium - as a new achievement - was celebrated as a great step forward. - From now on, the long building was finally established as a school building, but only its thick outer walls have survived the changing times almost unchanged. Inside, the eventful history continued, and that is why new conversions, modernizations and renovations were necessary again and again, because the range of schools on offer was expanded more and more: from 1919 onwards, a training school for all school leavers was added to the existing schools, and in 1924 a commercial vocational school was established in 1934 the gymnasium was given up in order to be able to build more classrooms, in 1936 the single-class Protestant denominational school, which previously had its own school and sacristan's house on Schulstrasse (today's Protestant rectory), was incorporated into the general elementary school. In 1938 the Israelite school was expelled from the Long Building due to the National Socialist race laws. She only found refuge for a short time in the rabbinate building next to the synagogue, until the National Socialists forbade all Jewish children to attend school in 1942.

Progymnasium

In January 1974, the primary and secondary school, which had meanwhile become the central secondary school in the Federseeraum, was able to move into its spacious new building. Since then, the Progymnasium has been the sole user of the long building. After the primary and secondary school moved out, the spatial requirements for a contemporary renewal of the school equipment were in place. A language laboratory and a new facility for chemistry and physics lessons could therefore be purchased.

Renovation and expansion

In the years from 1996 to 2000, the building was completely renovated in three construction phases while the school was still in operation. In addition, an outbuilding with the specialist rooms for music and visual arts was built. In another outbuilding, the city's former police and notary's building, common rooms, a school library, a meeting room for school social work and a school canteen were set up. The outdoor facilities have also been completely redesigned.
